What Is the Metaverse, Exactly?

The metaverse is “an integrated network of 3D virtual worlds.” These worlds are accessed through a virtual reality headset — users navigate the metaverse using their eye movements, feedback controllers or voice commands. The headset immerses the user, stimulating what is known as presence, which is created by generating the physical sensation of actually being there.

Broadly speaking, the technologies that comprise the metaverse can include virtual reality (VR) — characterized by persistent virtual worlds that continue to exist even when you’re not playing — as well as augmented reality (AR) which combines features of the digital and physical worlds. However, it doesn’t require that those spaces be exclusively accessed via VR or AR.

Metaverse and the future of work

As the metaverse concept is starting to incorporate Web3 technology enabled through blockchain technology, the future metaverse would be something very similar to our real world in many aspects and even replace some real-world activities.

Already some metaverse non-fungible token (NFT) vendors have enabled their NFTs to be usable in some metaverse games such as clothing and footwear and more are planning to venture into the domain.

What Is Facebook Metaverse, And How Does It Work

In the recent past, it has been observed that Facebook has made building the metaverse one of its big priorities. And for that, it has invested heavily in VR through its Oculus headsets. Analysts believe the tech giant has even incurred loss in the process of increasing the product’s sale by keeping its price lower than the competitor’s price.

A Huge Opportunity

A new iteration of the internet is being worked on and this will have massive implications for society. Marketing, communications, and branding professionals will face new challenges but also new opportunities. This new era of the metaverse will unleash amazing creativity and open up new frontiers and horizons for brands and businesses.
